It introduces a control plane that manages a cluster of servers as a single unified computing resource - you describe the desired state ('I want 5 replicas of this container, always running, with this much CPU and memory') and Kubernetes continuously works to maintain that state, automatically recovering from failures, scheduling new containers on nodes with capacity, and exposing services through stable network endpoints.

Kubernetes Core Objects
- Pod - The smallest deployable unit in K8s. Contains one or more containers that share the same network namespace (same IP address) and storage volumes. Pods are ephemeral - they can be killed and replaced. Never manage Pods directly; use Deployments
- Deployment - The standard way to run stateless applications. Manages a ReplicaSet that ensures the desired number of Pod replicas are always running. Handles rolling updates (replace pods gradually) and rollbacks (revert to previous version)
- Service - A stable network endpoint for a set of Pods. Pods come and go (they're ephemeral and get new IPs), but a Service provides a consistent DNS name and IP that routes to healthy pods. - Namespace - Virtual cluster within a physical cluster. Isolate dev/staging/production. RBAC policies, resource quotas, and network policies can be applied per namespace
